Skin Serums / The Purest Solutions
Skin serums are products that contain a wide range of different ingredients your face needs. Our skin is precious to all of us. Caring for it well, analyzing its needs correctly and supporting it with the best skincare products creates excellent results. Today we are talking about serums, an indispensable part of skincare. Acid-based serums and vitamins, which you often see on social media, help you maintain your skin's elasticity balance when used correctly. But can every skin type use every serum? Which is the best skin serum? What are the benefits of a skin serum? We have answered all of it for you. Let's get started!
Our face is one of the most delicate areas of our body. On top of that, it is exposed every day to polluted air, makeup residue and many other negative influences. If these factors continue over a long period, they can pave the way for visible pores, acne, pimples, blackheads or a dull look. It pays to be mindful and, as you age, to take the steps needed to keep your skin looking lively. Cleansing is the foundation of skin health. You should always cleanse your skin deeply. Using only micellar water is not enough in this respect. We recommend always using an effective cleansing gel that cleans the skin without making it feel tight. After the cleansing step, face serums come into play, before your moisturizer.
A face serum is a skincare product you can apply before moisturizing, and its powerful ingredients act directly on your skin. The main job of a face serum is to penetrate deep into the skin, because it contains active ingredients in a very high concentration. This way, you can use products that target the problems your skin is facing far more effectively. Vitamin C serum, dark spot serum, pore-tightening serum and many other types are all part of the skin serum family.
Skincare Serums
A skincare serum contains powerful active ingredients. It has a liquid form because that allows it to carry these ingredients into the skin. This way, serums can be used as effective tools that target the solution to a specific skin concern. For visible wrinkles, dryness, a dull look and dark spots, you should definitely include face serums in your skincare routine. You will notice for yourself that skin concerns are resolved in a much shorter time and that your skin looks revitalized thanks to strong moisture retention.
It is worth noting that serums alone do not provide perfect moisture. To get the best results, it is important to follow the right skincare order. The idea that you can solve a skin concern with just one serum will not give you a healthy outcome. You need to regularly clear dirt from your skin with a cleanser suited to your skin type. In addition, weekly peels let you get rid of dead skin. When your face is free of dead cells, serums are absorbed much better. You will agree that building a skincare routine on clogged pores and dead skin reduces the effects to a minimum.
Serums can contain highly moisturizing active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and ceramides. On its own, however, this property does not work like a moisturizing cream. Moisturizing lotions and creams are more professional at locking moisture into the skin, thanks to their richer texture and their barrier-forming properties. From this we learn that a serum applied after cleansing cannot provide effective care on its own.
How Much and How Often Should a Serum Be Used?
Amount and frequency vary by serum type; the most accurate guide is always the product's own instructions. Moisturizing serums such as the Hyaluronic Acid Serum are applied to damp skin after cleansing, a few drops in the morning and evening. The antioxidant Vitamin C Skin Serum is also suitable for morning and evening use; 1-2 drops in a thin layer are enough, and sunscreen should not be neglected during the period of use.
Retinol serums are applied only in the evening routine, 1-2 drops. The instructions for the Liposomal Retinol Night Serum recommend starting with 1-2 times a week and gradually increasing use. The AHA & BHA Red Peeling Serum, on the other hand, is a rinse-off product: it is applied to dried skin, avoiding the eye area, left on for 10 minutes, rinsed off with plenty of water and used twice a week, with at least 3 days between applications.
The amount and frequency of serum use vary according to the product's formula. The Hyaluronic Acid Serum can be applied to damp skin after cleansing, a few drops in the morning and evening, and does not need to be rinsed off. Arbutin Serum can also be used in the morning and evening routine, a few drops at a time. The Vitamin C Serum, according to the product instructions, can be applied in the morning or evening routine in a thin layer, 1-2 drops. After these products, a moisturizer suited to your skin's needs can be used; the daytime routine should be finished with sunscreen.
Retinol serums do not follow the same frequency approach as serums used day and night. The Purest Solutions Liposomal Retinol Night Serum is applied to clean skin in the evening, 1-2 drops. If you are new to retinol, start with 1-2 nights a week and gradually increase the frequency according to your skin's tolerance.
AHA & BHA Red Peeling Serum is not a serum for daily use that stays on the skin. It is applied to cleansed, completely dry skin, left on for 10 minutes and then rinsed off. It is recommended to use it twice a week, leaving at least 3 days between applications.
For this reason, when using serums, instead of setting one single amount or frequency valid for all products, you should follow each serum's own instructions. Building a simple routine of a few products that address your skin's needs and using intensive actives in a controlled way is a more balanced approach than applying many serums at once.
Serums by Skin Type
As with every skincare and cosmetic product, you should make choices specific to your skin type with face serums too. When choosing a skin serum, examining and evaluating its ingredients will guide you. If your skin has acne concerns, it is very helpful for the serum to contain salicylic acid. To research ingredients like these and find a solution to the concern you are facing, we have shared a few tips with you below!
Choosing a serum for skin with dark spots: if spots form on your face and take months to fade, it means your skin needs help. Skin with dark spots should consider skincare serums containing niacinamide, azelaic acid, arbutin and hyaluronic acid.
Choosing a serum for dry skin: if dryness and tightness constantly dominate your skin, it means it is not getting enough moisture balance. For this, moisturizing ingredients should definitely be included, even in your cleansing products. When choosing a serum, B5 and hyaluronic acid will be very beneficial.
When choosing a serum for blemish-prone skin, you can look for ingredients that help reduce the appearance of blemishes; salicylic acid comes first among them. Beyond that, you can also consider serums containing malic acid, glycolic acid and niacinamide.
How to Use Multiple Serums Together
It is possible to use more than one serum, but you should not assume that every serum can be used with every other in the same routine. The first criterion is the product instructions: retinol serums are used only at night, the rinse-off AHA & BHA Red Peeling Serum is used twice a week, while Niacinamide and Arbutin serums are suitable for both the morning and evening routine. For strong actives whose instructions do not recommend combined use, it is more cautious to split them across different evenings or between morning and evening rather than layering them on the same night.
If you will use two serums in the same routine, the general rule is to move from the fluid, water-based form to the richer form. The instructions in the brand's skincare sets describe specific pairs: first Arbutin Serum, then Niacinamide Serum, or first Hyaluronic Acid Serum, then Peptide Serum, with a 15-20 minute wait between the two applications. When adding a new serum to your routine, keep the others unchanged and test it first on a small area; if irritation occurs, stop using it and consult your dermatologist.
Multiple serums can be used in the same skincare routine, but it is not necessary or appropriate to use all serums together. When using serums together, your skin's needs, the products' active ingredients, textures and usage instructions should be considered together. In general, you can start with lighter-textured products after cleansing and apply a moisturizer after the serums.
For example, the moisturizing Hyaluronic Acid Serum can be applied to damp skin after cleansing. In the usage instructions of The Purest Solutions Hydrating and Revitalizing Skincare Serum Set, it is recommended to apply Hyaluronic Acid Serum followed by Vitamin C Serum. This way, two serums with moisturizing and antioxidant properties can be used in the same routine for different needs.
However, the same approach should not be applied to serums with more intensive actives such as retinol or AHA and BHA. Retinol serums are included in the night routine, and using them in the same routine as strong exfoliating products such as AHA/BHA can increase skin sensitivity. AHA & BHA Red Peeling Serum is not left on the skin like other daily serums; it is applied to clean, dry skin, left on for 10 minutes and then rinsed off with plenty of water. For this reason, when using multiple serums, it is important to evaluate products not only by texture order but also by their active ingredients and how they are used.
