What Is BHA and Which Skin Types Is It Suitable For?
BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid) is an oil-soluble acid that penetrates the deeper layers of the skin and helps clear out pores. It is especially suitable for oily, combination and acne-prone skin. Effective against blackheads, pimples and enlarged pores, BHA balances the skin's sebum and gives a smoother look. On sensitive skin, careful use is recommended. You can browse more options for your skin type in the oily skin category.
What Is the Relationship Between BHA and Salicylic Acid?
BHA is the collective name for beta hydroxy acids; salicylic acid is the most widely used member of this class in skincare. When you see "BHA" on a product, it usually means salicylic acid. You will find it under the name "Salicylic Acid" in the ingredients list. When choosing a product, you can compare ingredients and formats in the salicylic acid category. In this category, the red peeling serum, as well as the salicylic acid toner and cleansing gel in the sets, also use salicylic acid as their BHA source.
The key difference from AHA is solubility. Because salicylic acid is oil-soluble, it can mix with sebum and travel into the pore. AHAs such as glycolic and lactic acid, on the other hand, are water-soluble and work mainly on the surface. In practice, BHA products are more often chosen for routines focused on oiliness and blackheads, and AHA products for routines focused on dullness and rough texture. Some formulas, like the red peeling serum, combine both in one product.
BHA Cleansers and Peels
BHA cleansers and peeling products gently clear away excess oil and dead cells built up on the skin. The BHA products from The Purest Solutions help deeply cleanse the skin and open clogged pores. With regular use, skin looks brighter, cleaner and more balanced. Ideal for minimizing the look of pores and revitalizing the skin.
The Purest Solutions Skin Serum with BHA
The Purest Solutions BHA skin serums are powerful against pore concerns. They penetrate the deeper layers of the skin, clear congestion and help prevent blackheads. Thanks to the lightweight formula, the serum absorbs quickly and supports skin renewal without leaving an oily feel. Designed especially for oily and combination skin, this serum gives your skin a healthy look with regular use.
How Do You Use BHA and Where Does It Fit in Your Routine?
With BHA products, the first thing to check is whether the product is rinsed off. The Salicylic Acid Purifying Cleansing Gel included in the sets is a rinse-off cleanser: it is massaged onto dampened skin in circular motions, then rinsed off thoroughly with water, and according to its label it can be used twice a day, morning and evening. The Salicylic Acid Toner, on the other hand, stays on the skin. After cleansing, in your evening routine, apply it to clean, dry skin with a cotton pad or your hands; no rinsing is needed.
The order follows from this: cleanser first, then toner, and finally serum if you use one. The instructions for the Care Set to Help Prevent Blemishes and Blackheads recommend waiting 15-20 minutes between the toner and the Arbutin Serum.
The AHA & BHA Red Peeling Serum is not a step for every evening, but for peeling days. Apply it to cleansed, thoroughly dried skin, avoiding the eye area, and rinse off thoroughly with water after 10 minutes. Use it twice a week, leaving at least 3 days between applications.
BHA Product Prices and Benefits
The BHA products from The Purest Solutions offer effective solutions at fair prices. They stand out for benefits such as clearing pores, evening out skin tone and helping prevent breakouts. Available as cleansers, peels and serums, these products can be purchased at prices to suit every budget. Discover BHA products to enrich your skincare routine and feel the difference.
How Do You Use BHA and Where Does It Fit in Your Routine?
Where a BHA product fits in your care routine depends on its form and on whether it needs to be rinsed off. The same application time or frequency should not be applied to cleansers, toners and peels.
Rinse-off cleanser: The Purest Solutions Salicylic Acid Purifying Cleansing Gel is used in the cleansing step of your routine. First wet your skin with water, then massage in a sufficient amount of product with circular motions. Rinse off thoroughly with water after application. According to the current product instructions, it can be used twice a day in your morning and evening routines.
Leave-on toner: Apply The Purest Solutions Salicylic Acid Toner to clean, dry skin in your evening routine, after the cleansing step. Spread a sufficient amount with a cotton pad or your hands. No rinsing is needed after application. Because the current product instructions do not specify a weekly frequency, do not apply the cleanser's twice-daily recommendation to the toner; follow the current guidance on the packaging.
Rinse-off peeling serum: The Purest Solutions AHA & BHA Red Peeling Skin Serum is applied to thoroughly dried skin after the cleansing step. Spread it gently, keeping it away from the eye area, leave it on for 10 minutes and rinse off thoroughly with water. The product instructions recommend using it twice a week, leaving at least three days between applications. Even though it comes in serum form, this product is not left on the skin; it is not recommended for sensitive or irritated skin.
Before using a BHA product for the first time, test it on a small area of your skin. If sensitivity or irritation develops, stop use and consult your dermatologist. Do not exceed the product's recommended frequency of use, and do not neglect sunscreen while using it.
What Is the Relationship Between BHA and Salicylic Acid?
BHA is the abbreviation of "Beta Hydroxy Acid" and describes a class of acids. In skincare, the ingredient most often found under this name is salicylic acid. In cosmetic terminology, salicylic acid is classified as a BHA; however, in terms of chemical structure it does not fully match the classic definition of a beta hydroxy acid. For this reason, "BHA" on products usually refers to salicylic acid, but the ingredient name in the ingredients list should be checked separately.
How it differs from AHA: Common AHAs such as glycolic and lactic acid are water-soluble, whereas salicylic acid is oil-soluble. This allows salicylic acid to interact with the oily environment inside pores. AHAs are preferred for care aimed at rough skin texture and uneven tone, while salicylic acid may be preferred for skin prone to blackheads and clogged pores. That said, do not base your product choice on the name of the acid alone; concentration, pH, the other ingredients in the formula and your skin's sensitivity also matter.
